Howden Civic Society
Howden Civic Society - promoting, protecting, improving ... the past for the future in Howden.
Howden Civic Society has, for nearly forty years, acted as a watchdog on all developments in the town. Its principal task is to monitor proposals which might impact on the historic core and traditions of Howden. As a voluntary organisation it depends on a loyal and well-informed membership.
Monthly meetings are held with visiting speakers and occasional outings to places of interest. These keep members up-to-date on developments and provide background history and information on a wide range of topics.
We meet in the Masonic Hall on Selby Road usually on the first Wednesday each month, with presentations starting at 7.30pm. We welcome members and guests alike and also welcome suggestions for speakers or topics for presentations.
New Heritage Centre
Recently the Society has opened a Heritage Centre in the Market Place which aims to tell the story of Howden.
The Centre is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 3pm Entrance is free and is easily accessible at street level.
